TPC Louisiana draws a sharp juxtaposition to other short, positional tracks such as Harbour Town and TPC Sawgrass that we have grown accustomed to over the past couple of months. The 2004 creation is far more in the vein of PGA West, which can be over-powered with driver. Featuring wide fairways and incredibly benign Bermuda-grass rough, TPC Louisiana is one of the easiest golf courses on the PGA Tour. In 2015 and 2016, when this tournament was an individual stroke play event, the Dye design ranked as the seventh-easiest and second-easiest course on Tour, respectively.
The name of the game at TPC Louisiana is bomb away and get hot with the putter. Obviously in a team format, birdies are going to be heavily accentuated, and players should be encouraged to take an aggressive approach. Statistics such as “Going for the Green Birdie or Better Percentage,” “Birdie or Better Percentage,” “Strokes Gained Total: Easy Scoring Conditions”, and any general putting stats will be tremendously important this week.
In terms of general strategy, I have had a lot of success at this tournament, finding the best individual players in scoring for this golf course, taking the average of their two model ranks, thus determining the strongest teams. Let's run through some more stats.

Enhance Anting is a 7,168 yard par 71 with four par 3’s, three par 5’s and Bermuda greens and fairways. It is a wide and open course with plenty of fairway surrounding the greens and very little conventional rough. There aren’t many trees either, but there is plenty of water, and the native areas are filled with brutal knee high grasses that can cause lost balls or unplayables as Jordan Smith found last year on the 71st hole to cost him the tournament.
The hardest hole on the course last year was the 488-yard par 4 6th, which played over half a shot over par and requires a tee shot over the corner of some bushes before a long approach to a narrow green with water along the right edge. That’s a common theme with water on the edge of seven of the greens, including the 199 yard 5th which played as the second hardest hole. All four par 3’s played between 0.1 and 0.4 shots over par and are a challenging set with two of them at 200 yards and the 2nd listed at 226 yards but could tip out at 280.
The par 4’s aren’t that long, with only four of them above 450 yards and 5 of them under 400 yards. The 8th is reachable at 315 yards on a direct line with a 290 yard carry over the water, as is the 17th which is 340 yards on a direct line but was moved forward and played closer to 290 over the weekend to be the easiest hole on the course. All three par fives are reachable at around the 570-yard mark. The 18th is a dramatic par 5 that is listed at over 600 yards, but plays shorter with the split fairway allowing a shortcut over the water to the right fairway before the water again cuts across in front and up the right side of the green.

Playing golf at Pasatiempo might ruin other golf courses for you

At first, learning that Pasatiempo was $425 for a public golf round, I was a little bit taken aback. After playing it, unequivocally it was worth every penny. Very rarely do you play a golf course and vividly remember every single hole and feel like every shot has such unique shot value but Pasatiempo pulls it off.
It’s no wonder Bobby Jones demanded Mackenzie for Augusta after playing in there in Santa Cruz. Every hole almost feels like it’s in own separate course totally separate from the rest of the property.
The greens were absolutely spectacular, they felt like full landforms that had multiple layers. Playing it after the college event, they couldn’t have been rolling purer. I would expect firm and fast conditions throughout the year.
The back nine is easily the hardest I’ve ever played. For a 6400 yard course, it certainly played nothing like it. All single digits handicappers were hitting long irons all day.
Specifically the 11th, there is absolutely no way to bomb and gauge the hole. You have to step up and hit two amazing shots to even have a chance at par. I promptly thinned a 5i into the ditch but I loved every second of it.
Mackenzie said Pasa his best design and routing and I couldn’t agree more. Cypress, Augusta and Royal Melbourne certainly aren’t readily available so to see his best work for that price is absolutely worth it.

Bryson DeChambeau’s Looming Decision

Last Wednesday was certainly an all-time golf twitter day in the history books. The entire community was speculating if LIV is actually going to shut down, and major news outlets were publishing stories on what they were hearing about what was going on inside of CEO Scott O’Neils office.
Everyday it seems like we get a new rumor, story, or an interview about what LIV’s future might look like post-2026 as it's been gossiped that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) won’t be funding the league once the season concludes.
One of the most interesting headlines was reported by Brody Miller from The Athletic who broke the news that Bryson DeChambeau and his camp were meeting with outside organizations about potential routes to take if he chose to leave LIV after his contract is up this year.
This headline is not shocking at all considering that Bryson’s contact is up. If you have been keeping tabs on Bryson’s body language on LIV, it hasn’t been great and he's been voicing more and more frustration as weeks gone on. He started back in February after bouncing around the question about committing to LIV after this year. In that press conference he stated:
“I’ve got a contract for this year, and we’ll go through it there and see what happens after that,” DeChambeau said.
There are people out there that think that Bryson is going to go full-time with YouTube, then just play the major championships because he has a 5 year exemption into all the majors due to his 2025 US Open win at Pinehurst. I do believe in the back of Bryson’s head he does probably think he can do YouTube more while being able to score well in the major championships.
However, the evidence is there after his embarrassing missed cut Masters that the best way to keep your game sharp is to play high level competitive golf on challenging courses. LIV does not check the box on the golf course front and has failed their players with a feeble schedule to prepare them for the major championships.
If I had to make a prediction, I do think Bryson will make his way back to the PGA Tour. He will most likely have to serve a one-year suspension until he can get his PGA Tour card back, similar to Patrick Reed’s situation right now. Bryson cares too much about his legacy and he knows that the best prep for the majors is playing consistent tournament golf.
If Bryson comes back to the PGA Tour, it's a huge win for Brian Rollap’s regime. Having Bryson, one of the best five golfers in the world, along with his social media presence would be huge for the league. Unlike Jay Monahan, Rollap would know how to work with Bryson and how to fit his goals of using social media to grow the game of golf.
It would be funny if Bryson pulled a LeBron back in 2010 when he announced his plans to join the Miami Heat on ESPN and made it a whole thing. LeBron changed how NBA teams built their rosters and free agency forever by creating a super team. If Bryson decides to leave LIV, I believe it is most likely the end of the league. Additionally, if Bryson goes to the PGA Tour, the sport might take a huge step forward.
