Valero Texas Open Tournament & Course Preview
Andy Lack

While neither visually pleasing, nor architecturally provocative, TPC San Antonio actually does one of the better jobs of testing modern professional golfers. TPC San Antonio can play as one of the more difficult courses on the PGA TOUR when it gets windy, and even when it’s not all that windy (JJ Spaun year), the scoring average barely hovers over a quarter stroke under par.
Last year, we got extremely windy conditions, particularly in the final round, and for the entire tournament, it was the toughest that the course has played in a decade. The Norman generally plays as one of the longer courses on Tour, and three of the four par fives measure over 590 yards. Last year, they ranked as the fourth toughest set of par fives on the PGA TOUR. It’s a very difficult ball-striking course.
Each of the last three years it has ranked top-10 in strokes gained off the tee difficulty, and each of the last two years it has ranked inside the top-10 in approach difficulty. Short game and putting generally provides the respite, but TPC San Antonio still generally ranks middle of the pack in the around the green difficulty and putting difficulty.
In terms of the actual course layout, the four par threes provide a stern test, all measuring between 171 and 241 yards and all playing over par. TPC San Antonio features a nice mix of stout par fours as well. Outside of the drivable 17th hole, the other nine par fours all measure between 401 and 481 yards. There are five par fours that measure above 445 yards, and they make up five of the six toughest holes on the course Three out of the four par fives measure over 590 yards and are not necessarily reachable by all players.

One and Done: Jordan Spieth
Josh Segal

Solid OAD result out of Jake Knapp at Houston, earning me $322,988 with a T6 finish at Houston. It took a heroic 62 in the final round to climb the leaderboard.
My pick this week for the Valero Texas Open is: Jordan Spieth
Since the beginning of February, Spieth has been playing some incredible golf. His notable finishes have been T12 at Genesis, T11 at API, and T11 at the Valspar. Spieth has great tournament history at the Valero Texas Open being a Texas native, winning this event back in 2021, and finishing inside the top 12 the past two years
He has been really trending with the irons, gaining at least 4.4 strokes on approach over his last two starts. Short game is very important at TPC San Antonio and Spieth has what it takes with his wedges to scramble around this track. Spieth’s game is there right now to truly contend and why not at a course where he is quite confident and comfortable at,
If you are looking to get off some chalk, I like Maverick McNealy and Rickie Fowler as potential good pivots off of Spieth, Henley, and Straka who I believe will be the top 3 owned golfers this week.
2026 OAD Total: $3,734,558

All eyes on Bryson at The Masters

People were asking me in the office who I am betting for the Masters. I told them outside of the couple futures I have already placed, I haven’t made a decision at the top of the odds board.
As BK wrote last week, this Masters feels wide open due to the fact that there are some big question marks with a handful of the elite players in our game. Scottie Scheffler has looked off for most of the year, Collin Morikawa just withdrew at Valero after withdrawing at the Players, and Rory has a back injury that has prevented him from playing since the Players.
You can argue that the two best players in the world right now play for LIV Golf. Specifically in this segment, I want to talk about Bryson DeChambeau because this might be his best shot to win the Masters so far in his career.
For much of Bryson’s career, he has struggled at Augusta. Bryson has arrived at The Masters with all sorts of body types and has tested out all the different equipment at Augusta. He had a famous quote he said back in 2020 during the fall Masters, saying that for him, Augusta is a par “67” due to his length and angles he can take off-the-tee. That quote didn’t do him any favors that week, finishing the tournament T34.
Looking at Bryson’s form coming into the Masters, it is the best he has looked in his career. Say what you want about LIV, but Bryson will be coming off back to back wins when he steps foot on the grounds next week, with one of those wins coming against Jon Rahm in a playoff.
What makes Bryson the most intriguing golfer next week is how everything ended for him last year. Bryson got beat up during the final round against Rory. He got exposed for poor distance control with his irons, and he couldn’t figure out his pace on the greens.
He was visibly frustrated throughout the day and looked defeated. He did himself zero favors during his post round interview, causing a stir with Rory as he called him out for not talking to him at any point during the round.
At this year's Masters, all eyes will be on Bryson as he makes his 9th appearance at Augusta National. It’s time for him to finally breakthrough here as he has seemed to figure something out about this golf course over the past two years.
Bryson is already an all-time great with two US Open trophies on his resume, and you have to think he should win a PGA Championship at some point in his career.
This is the year for Bryson to win his first green jacket. It’s wide open with question marks about Scottie Scheffler and the reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy. He has a chance to further his legacy and I believe this is his best shot to do so.
Gary Woodland’s Perseverance and Message

It was a crazy weekend in the golf world with the news about Tiger’s car crash, however, we got maybe the best feel good story we will have this year in golf. Gary Woodland won his first tournament since his 2019 US Open win at Pebble.
Everyone reading here, please watch Gary’s interview with Rex Hoggard about his struggles and battles with his PTSD following his brain surgery. I watched it initially when it came out during Players week, but I wanted to watch it a second time after Gary’s win in Houston.
I took away a lot from watching his interview. I was amazed at Gary Woodland’s perseverance and life message he is trying to convey to his family and the entire world. We watched Gary celebrate his victory and was met by his wife in tears on the 18th green, which was an ultimate comeback story that we will remember for the rest of our lives as golf fans.
It truly makes his win even more crazy with him explaining his PTSD and sharing some stories of him on the course entering a state where he’s not in the right condition to play. He shared some stories that involved his caddie making sure that people don’t walk behind him to reduce the stress he was feeling. Gary cited that he has worked with the PGA Tour to get some security to walk with him and enhance protocol with distance from fans to make him feel comfortable and safe.
I don’t want to go too much longer in depth on his conversation because it's better to hear Gary firsthand talk about his story and what he battles, but his message really resonated with me.
Don’t give up, keep going, and you can’t do this alone.
Gary’s interview was so inspiring and makes you realize the importance of continuing to believe in yourself and if you are going through a hard time, reach out to a friend or loved one. Or be that friend or family member that picks up the phone and checks in on someone.

Final Four Preview & Predictions

We did not get all 1 seeds in the Final Four again, which I’m glad most of you enjoy, but we still will be watching four of the biggest programs in college basketball battle it out at Lucas Oil in Indianapolis this weekend.
Before we start, I just wanted to make a note that all four of these teams are top 30 in the country in average height on their roster. Does height win in the NIL era? Some might be asking.
I wanted to start this breakdown and preview off right with the UConn Huskies who pulled off an improbable comeback, cultivating in one of the craziest game winners in college basketball history.
Tarris Reed has led the charge with 20+ points in three of UConn’s four games this tournament. He’s been the key piece to UConn all season, and he’s going to need another 20 piece against Illinois. The Huskies need to get Braylon Mullins going again, he’s had a rough tournament, but obviously made up for it and then some against Duke with a half second remaining.
Dubbed the “Illinois Balkans”, Brad Underwood’s squad have been nothing short of remarkable this season. They’ve won all tournament games by double digits, and spearheading the charge is projected top 10 pick Keaton Wagler. Wagler, a non top 100 freshman recruit, has been the surprise of the team, and he beat up on Iowa with 25 points last Saturday.
Arizona is led by Big 12 POY Jaden Bradley, but it’s not reliant on just him. They have projected lottery pick Brayden Burries, five-star Koa Peat, and big men duo Motiejus Krivas and Tobe Awaka. Oh, and I forgot one of the best slashing wings in Ivan Kharchenkov. Just a complete nightmare matchup for opponents, the Wildcats will be a tough out for this next team.
The Wolverines, in my opinion, have been the title favorite since destroying Gonzaga by 40 on Thanksgiving Eve. If backup PG LJ Cason was healthy, they would for sure be the deepest team of the bunch, and without him probably still are. The starting front court of Yaxel Lendeborg, Aday Mara, and Morez Johnson is the best in college basketball.
Predictions
UConn vs Illinois
These teams actually did play each other back in November at MSG that ended in a 74-61 win for the Huskies. I don’t see another blowout happening, but I do think Dan Hurley gets it done again. UConn might just be a team of destiny this year, and I think they will be able to halt the Illinois offense well. UConn wins in a slugfest, 69-65.
Michigan vs Arizona
As I said in my March Madness preview, I have been on the Michigan bandwagon all season, and bias aside, I’m taking them to beat Arizona. The way they completely ran Tennessee out of the building last Sunday was appalling. They just have too much talent, offensive scoring options, and defensive weapons for Arizona. Dusty May has been here in the Final Four before, and I believe Mara will be able to get his in an 82-74 win.
Michigan vs UConn
UConn has had a fairly impressive tournament run, but it has to end here. I’m fairly confident the winner of Michigan vs Arizona will be the National Champion, as both teams have just too much talent for the other two participants. Michigan is too good inside the paint on both ends for UConn, and I’ll predict a double digit 87-71 win for the Wolverines to cut down the nets next Monday.

Flex of the Week
Shoutout to Bexico City and Josh for hitting Gary Woodland at the Houston Open. Both Bexico City and Josh have hit three straight outrights in a row on the PGA Tour with Cam Young at the Players Championship, Matt Fitzpatrick at the Valspar Championship, and now Gary Woodland in Houston.
Congrats to some of our subscribers who also had Gary Woodland and played him in DFS. Just heating up for the first major the year next week!
