Statistical Spotlight: SG from 100-150 Yards
The Procore Championship is primarily a wedgefest, with roughly 50% of shots coming from under 150 yards. On average at Silverado Resort, 18.4% of second shots come from the proximity bucket of 100-150 yards. The PGA Tour average from that range is 10.3%. With Silverado not being a tough driving test off-the-tee, players will have to separate from the field with their wedges from this range and with the putter.
Over the last 75 rounds, here are the top 10 golfers from 100-150 yards:

Player Profile: Sam Burns
Andy Lack

Sam Burns has been playing such good golf over the past couple months. He should have won the Canadian Open, and he perhaps should have won the U.S. Open if there was not the delay and he had to finish his round in brutal conditions. Now he returns to a wedges and putting golf course when he has been the best putter on Tour all season. I do believe there is still a lot of motivation for Burns to prove and justify his Ryder Cup pick and get an opportunity to play as he was one of the more controversial selections.
And finally, I love that he’s had a ton of success in the Fall swing and actually spent time playing in September and October. We are talking about the two-time winner of the Sanderson Farms after all. Long overdue for a victory, this is Sam Burns’ moment.

What impact will the US team playing in the Procore Championship have in the 2025 Ryder Cup?
At the 2023 Ryder Cup, captain Zach Johnson and the United States team were embarrassed at Marco Simone in Rome. They didn’t seem prepared or sharp enough, and it really showed throughout the tournament. On the other hand, Luke Donald and the rest of his staff were praised for having the team ready to compete.
Before every Ryder Cup, the Europeans compete on the DP World Tour following the conclusion of the FedEx Cup, something the Americans do not do. Europe’s decision has been based on wanting the players to keep their competitive juices flowing while staying in tournament form.
The United States players, however, have traditionally not participated in professional golf tournaments for the month between the FedEx Cup and the Ryder Cup. They usually opt to practice at home by themselves to stay sharp.

Zach Johnson and his players were heavily criticized and questioned for not playing the Procore Championship in Napa. Keegan Bradley and the players agreed that they should continue to be playing competitive golf. 10 of the 12 players on the United States roster will be competing this week in Napa Valley. One of the players not playing, for obvious reasons, is Bryson DeChambeau.
It came out a couple weeks ago that Bryson and Keegan asked the PGA Tour if Bryson could play. Obviously they said no, because they aren’t just going to lift the rules because of the Ryder Cup, which the PGA Tour doesn’t even monetarily benefit off of or sanction.
The question is, how big of an impact will playing the Procore Championship have on this United States roster?

Obviously, time will tell. From a team comradery and locker room perspective, it’s great that 10 of the 12 players will be together for a week. I am sure they all will be playing practice rounds together. Maybe Keegan will coordinate the practice round groups as a potential test for pairings.
The team should be motivated to post some good scores this week and make a statement to the people that believe that the Europeans are better. Rory McIlroy just won the Irish Open in dramatic fashion, eagling the 72nd hole to force a playoff. Let’s see one of the Americans win the Procore and ride the momentum into Bethpage Black.

The USGA Understands the Mission
In case you missed it, the Walker Cup, the amateur edition of the Ryder Cup, with the best USA, Great Britain & Ireland players concluded on Sunday.
The event was hosted at Cypress Point, the No. 3 ranked golf course in America on Golf Digest’s annual top 100 list. The fact the USGA was able to host at Cypress is insane to me, given the ultimate privacy and prestige of the golf club.

At Inside Sports Network, we can take course analysis very seriously, knowing that it is our bread and butter. Since joining the company, Andy’s influence has made me very interested in consuming golf course architecture content.
If you aren’t familiar, Cypress Point is located at Pebble Beach. It’s one of the most exclusive clubs, one of the best pieces of property in the United States. Being able to watch competitive, team golf from some of the best amateurs in the world on a superb golf course with fascinating views of the Pacific Ocean was a treat for us golf fans.
The USGA has understood the mission of giving golf fans access to watch and see some of the best golf courses in the world. The future venue list for the Walker Cup is quite impressive:
2026: Lahinch Golf Club
2028: Bandon Dunes Golf Resort
2030: Prince’s Golf Club
2032: Oakmont Country Club
2036: Chicago Golf Club
2044: Pine Valley Golf Club
The fact that Pine Valley is hosting a golf event that is televised is ludicrous, even with it still being 19 years away. The US Amateur list of future venues is as impressive as the Walker Cup.
If you are a golf course architecture junkie like the team at Inside Sports Network, you’ll be more than pleased with the future events on the USGA schedule.
